Day 6 (Acclimatization Day) - Our main goal today was to hopefully prepare our bodies to 5000m. Geordie and Paul T would be resting from this excursion today due to their weakened states yesterday. I think this may have something to do with our guides umming and arghing over whether we would hit 5000m that day. Within about 15 minutes Alan had decided to head back down. He had been suffering since day 2 and was feeling very weak. The rest of us pushed on. The sky was remarkably blue and the sun was beating down hard on us. We took plenty of stops to mess around. Tashi lead a challenge to climb a shear rock wall which he made look simple. Not simple for anyone else though.
We insisted to our guides that we were wanting to hit 5000m today so the decision was made to push on up. It was very steep and had us all blowing heavily. When we reached 5000 everyone was very pleased. It felt like we had made a huge achievement and i think it made us all feel a lot more confident that we could get to base camp. By lunchtime we were back down. Most of us took the opportunity to purchase hot water and did some laundry in the sun. I bought myself some much needed shower time, my first one on the trek.
That evening the cards came out again. As I walked back to my hut late that evening I saw the most stars I had ever seen in my life. I stood outside for ages looking up at them. They looked huge!
