OFFICIAL SITE - Welcome to the 5 Torri
We did a lot of driving on this trip and this is stop two of day two. After our walk around lago di braies, we jumped back into the car and drove to the gondola for cinque torri. Like anywhere in the dolomites, the drive was stunning throughout.
After a short steep gondola ride we climbed off at rifugio scoiattoli, ignoring the rifugio for now and headed directly towards rifugio nuvolau, which is situated at the top of a jagged ridge. the climb up the ridge was straightforward with no real exposure, but it was dramatic and the views were incredible. this was definitely an area i wanted to capture on my drone. For a rifugio in this precarious position, it was surprisingly substancial with good food, drinks and some outdoor tables. this was a spot we could have happily stayed at for hours. After lunch we clambered back down the ridge and spent some time exploring around cinque torri. This was a fascinating spot with remnants of world war 1 bunkers and trenches dotted about. A very unique addition to our trip.
Looking out from rifugio scoiattoli to a location we hiked the previous year near croca di lago.
Looking back, tofana (3rd highest peak in the dolomites) back middle, rifugio scoiattoli in the center of the shot and, cinque torri to the right.
on the trail toward rifugio averau. we wont be stopping here for long as intent on visiting rifugio nuvolau instead.
