(I found this gpx route online and rarely needed to use my gps so i cant guarantee accuracy)
After a surprisingly good nights sleep squished up in a room with 13 beds side by side we woke to a slightly gloomier day. We knew today would involve some river crossings which i was quite excited about and also a large section of flat ground. i certainly welcomed a less strenuous day today. a very easy day to navigate and no snow but today i had to be even more careful to protect my camera due to dust we swept across the plains. that's one of the problems with bringing my camera along and the other is that it weighs the equivalent of a couple of bricks. ah! but it's worth it.
Already one river crossing down and passing the cone shaped Stórasúla.
The small settlement of Hvannagil. There is accommodation here for 60 people so it's worth considering if you cant get booked in to Alftavatn
Fortunately there was a bridge here.
Feeling smug at having a bridge but that wasn't to last for long
Ah Katla Geopark, home to a fearsome large volcano
Second river crossing of the day. deeper, wider and stronger than the last one.
and now we are in a black desert of swirling dust
a rather bleak landscape but it still has it's beauty and it's definitely unique
Stórkonufell
again feeling grateful for the bridge
Hattfell on the right. a very picturesque peak
strange huh? like walking on an old sea bed
this is an area recently used for the russell crowe movie 'Noah'.
feeling close to the end now and kinda hoping to be out of the dust but still trying to take in as much of this unique landscape as possible. such a different day to yesterday.
emstrur in my sights
Like i've already said, today was a much easier day due to it being mostly flat and also it was so vastly different in appearance to yesterday. we wondered what day 3 (the last leg) had in store.
