Continuing along Route 1 through a mossy lava field
It seems like most of Iceland is covered in these very distinct lava flows
Foss á Síðu
Myrdalssandur. Like being on the moon
1km Bridge. A previous one was destroyed when the volcano under the icecap in the background send water and icebergs down the Sandar obliterating it.
Skeiðarárjokull glacier off of Vatnajökull ice cap
The bridge at Jökulsárlón
Small cafe and tour boat
6 layers on and still cold
Jökulsárlón. The icebergs broken off of the glacier get trapped in this lake.
Many films have been shot here including Batman Begins. For Die Another Day they closed off the river leading to the sea to stop the tide so that it could completely freeze over.
Thanks to Paul we managed to wangle a private tour on a Rib
We had to stay clear of the large icebergs on the Rib incase they overturned.
Big Friendly Viking. If it wasn't for this guy we wouldn't have had this rare experience.
Fished from the cold water. Imagine what the 90% submerged part of an iceberg looks like.

Our Mountain hut. Bolti at Skaftafell
6 bunks, a small sink and a shower room. All we needed
Outside
Looking out over Skeiðarársandur. The world's largest Sandar
Another view from our hut. The highest point in Iceland, Hvannadalshnukur
Helpfull route displays situated around the park. We ended up between Grjóthóll and Skerhóll. More time at Skaftafell would have been nice.
