TODAY, SHROPSHIRE WAS THE ONLY PART OF THE COUNTRY THAT WAS FORCAST TO BE DRY. It's an area i haven't really seen much of so I was pretty keen to explore more. on many of my drives through shropshire on the m54, i've looked up at wrekin with curiosity. It's pretty much the first decent sized hill you see heading west beyond birmingham., so i wondered what the views from the top would be like. I always noticed the huge mast on it's top too and wondered what it was for. It's also a fairly short journey for us... we consider just under 2 hours to be short! We must thank www.walkingenglishman.com for this great route as it also covers ercalL and some of the surrounding woodland, otherwise it could have a rather short trip.
STRAIGHT OFF THE ROAD AND INTO WOODLAND. LOOPING AROUND LAWRENCE'S HILL
SIGNS OF WITCHY GOINGS ON? WELL WICCANS HAVE DONE CEREMONIES AROUND HERE
FIRST VIEW OF THE ERCALL. OUR ROUTE INVOLVED LOOPING AROUND THE BACK AND TO THE SUMMIT
SOME GEOLOGICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ERCALL
I'm not sure what this is, no doubt left behind from the quarrying days here
view from the top of the ercall, the wrekin in the distance.
our plan is to loop around to the other side and attack it from the west.
the ercall wood has some gorgeous oak trees
here is a first, today's route (very briefly) took us right beside the m54
this is limekiln wood and to get here we had to cut through the edge of a golf course. if walking along the m54 didn't have us questioning the route then why would that?
looking over to the wrekin from the edge of limekiln wood

the section of road from gibbons coppice to neves castle
