I've done this walk several times but not for the last 10 years!! scary how fast time passes. NOTE TO SELF: MORE HIKING!
We parked up in the village of Longnor and within 5 minutes we were out in the fields
heading towards High Wheeldon
some nice rays of light breaking through the light cloud. not just a fleeting sight but more to follow.
CHrome Hill and Parkhouse hill in the distance. We'll be seeing them up close, later today.
On the green lane
It's about to get very steep. Maybe too steep for this time in the morning
The steep climb was well worth it for the morning views
high wheeldon summit trig point
catherine approaching the summit. aldery cliff behind
more morning rays of light
admiring the scenery
north west view from high wheeldon
a small but busy pond in the village of earl sterndale
ah it looks like this pub is currently closed. Google the story behind the name. Could it really be true?
parkhouse hill and chrome hill. still not time for those yet.
dowel cave
dowel dale
farm at greensides
the ascent of high edge
an old machine gun bunker on high edge. part of the defenses of the former raf harpur hill.
It's the perfect spot for lunch and the halfway point of the walk
approaching chrome hill (dragon's back))
the climb along the dragon's back is as adventurous as the name suggests.
the view from the summit looking down to parkhouse hill
descending the dragon's back towards parkhouse hill
parkhouse hill ascent. steep with light scrambling
from parkhouse hill looking back to chrome hill
on parkhouse hill you can see our first peak of the day, high wheeldon (the pointy one at the back, right of the middle)
view south from parkhouse hill
descending parkhouse hill
