I have to thank the walking englishman for this route. It's the first time i've really explored this area. I've done the nearby Bleaklow and Saddleworth area but somehow this spot had been missed. It was one of those days that didn't match up with the met office report. It was blowy!! It was quite sunny at times though so it balanced out to be a fairly good walking day. I can imagine this route at times will be a rather boggy affair but due to recent dry weather that really wasn't the case. Personally i think the second half of the walk is a lot more dramatic than the first but the barren look of wessenden head moor did have it's charm even though it did nothing to protect us from the wind. one thing to note is that our start point in holme had very limited parking although you could easily start this from the car park next to the holme moss television station.
starting off on meal hill

heading down to the dam at bilberry reservoir. google this reservoir and you can read about the disaster than occurred in the 1850s when this dam burst and destroyed homes in the town of holmfirth below.
