A short early morning walk visiting hole of horcum. Initially not quite the dramatic void i had imagined and it wasn't until i was down in it that i really appreciated it's charm. my route initially took me onto moorland around the west side of the hole. The wide track made this section quick walking which is good as it was pretty featureless. That's moors for you but I must say I like that about them. Things got a lot more interesting though when entering the hole. My route took me left at dundale pond to the side of a very deep overgrown ravine. I wish i'd actually gone down inside the ravine for even more interest. I'm not sure it is completely do-able though as a beck became more apparent the deeper i went. at the bottom was a very lush wooded area and i picked up a trail leading me alongside Levisham Beck. the trail took me higher above the beck before opening out into fields. I was pretty much in the center of the hole surrounded by it's wooded banks. I headed north through several fields passing by a settlement at low horcum (it's not really a low section though??) and then joining a path that took me up and out of the hole.
