Last day of hiking in the dolomites and another incredible hike. This felt like quite a long one today and the sun was beating down hard on us. absolutely beautiful and varied scenery, also quite different to the previous hikes. Again, we reached the trail head nice and early so that we could get parked up without hassle. We actually didn't see anyone for a good portion of the hike until we approached the croca da lago. our feelings are, the less people we see, the better. saying that, you always meet the nicest people whilst hiking. i GUESS THAT IS BECAUSE WE ARE ALL IN OUR ELEMENT, LIVING THE DREAM.
Effortless parking at the trail head.

just a few steps away from the road and we are on the trail.

I would be quite happy just walking around in this woodland all day.

I kept questioning in my head, whether there are bears in the dolomites. The answer is YES but not many. Still not very reassuring. Oh and maybe some wolves and jackals too.

A lot of this trail is mixed in terms of level ground and incline. Quite a lot of include follows on shortly after here and until the Val Negra viewpoint.

Ah, sweating like crazy but we have reached a gentle section in today's hike.

Lago Federa

Rifugio Croca da Lago. They have a friendly dog that liked Catherine. Didn't seem so friendly on the initial greeting though. We stopped here briefly for some coffee and cake. A really impressive rifugio. I'd love to have stayed here.

The very impressive peak of Becco di Mezzodi.

Looking back to Rifugio Croca da Lago.

The sun was beating down hard but also bouncing back up at us from the trail floor.

Turn around, epic view!!!

This view from my window please.

at the saddle of Forcella Ambrizzola

View ahead from Forcella Ambrizzola

Heading to that saddle on the left, Forcella Rossa del Formin saddle.

The view back from Forcella Rossa del Formin saddle is probably one of the best views i've seen.

The route back down to the the trail head was vastly different compared to what we had already done.

The trail wasn't always obvious but at the same time, it didn't take long to regain it.

The scramble down through the scree and boulders was a lot of fun. It took a lot of concentration though , and it sun was brutal.

Such a varied hike. Being the last day, I was trying to decide which hike had been the best. I think we had saved the best for last!

Tired on the boulders and hoping to reach trees soon.

Back down in the forest, a little cooler and very happy.

The final section back to the trail head. Amazing trip to the Dolomites. Cant wait to return in 2024!
